The task force recommendations are the foundation for the future of mental health. Out of 15 recommendations, 3 have not been implemented. Dr Njenga emphasized leadership, governance, and decentralization of mental health services.

Dr Neema Araka recommended leveraging technology to nurture teenage agency and championing boredom to breed opportunities for self-reflection, creativity, and discovery.

Education is necessary at both the school and community levels for better mental health. Capacity building, harmonizing assessment tools and engaging stakeholders can help with mitigating the high rates of depression and anxiety among out-of-school adolescents ~ Gideon Mbithi

Voices from the youth in Kenya addressing mental health gaps and recommendations ~ Jeremiah Okuto

Speaking for the youth in Kenya, it was revealed that youth felt mental health services were insufficient and feared misunderstanding and judgment resulting from the age disparity between them (youth) and available mental health providers.

The Kenya Psychiatric Association (KPA) would like to invite you to the 15th Annual Scientific Conference and Annual General Meeting at The Grand Royal Swiss Hotel – Kisumu from 7th to 9th September 2023. The KPA Conference Theme is: MENTAL HEALTH FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT.

Registration for the conference is now open and registration fees are below. The Early Bird registration deadline is Friday, September 1st. After September 1st rates increase to the Late Registration rate.

Members must be in good standing for their membership dues at the start of the conference in order to attend at the member rate. Registration is non-refundable except in cases of emergencies.

The Conference Registration Fee above caters for:

  • Access to all Scientific Sessions 
  • 10 and 4 oçlock tea/coffee & snacks and lunch
  • Delegate’s Package – Program, a KPA branded bag, notebook and pen, name-tag Wi-Fi access throughout the conference.

This year’s conference will be held at Grand Royal Swiss Hotel –  Riat, Kisumu-Kakamega Highway, Vihiga Road, Kisumu-40100, Kenya.
