The Kenya Psychiatric Association (KPA) is pleased to announce the 16th Annual Scientific Conference, scheduled to take place in Mombasa from the 11th to the 13th of September 2024.

General Information

We welcome abstract submissions from professionals at all levels of practice and across various areas of expertise. All submitted abstracts will undergo a rigorous peer-review process conducted by three members of the KPA ERM Committee. To ensure your abstract receives proper consideration, please ensure it adheres to the provided guidelines. Incomplete abstracts will not be reviewed. Thank you for your attention to detail and contribution to the conference.

Presentation Formats

Please specify your preferred presentation format(s) for each submitted abstract, indicating them in order of preference.

  • 15-minute normal presentation
  • Poster Presentation

Submission Guidelines

Each submission must include:

  • Abstract (300-word limit) – The abstract submission is structured into individual sections, each with its own designated field. While there is no word limit per section, the total word count for all sections must not exceed 300 words.

Each listed author must provide:

  • Biographical details, including credentials and educational background, are required for each author.
  • Passport sized photo

If you are selected to present, you are required to sign a Photo Consent Form, also known as a model release. This is a written agreement between the photographer (KPA) and the subject (you) that grants the KPA permission to publish your image on the association’s media channels.

The Kenya Psychiatric Association is accredited as a provider of continuing professional development in psychiatry by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.

Abstract Submission

All abstracts must be submitted through the KPA online submission site. To start your submission, log in with your KPA username and password. If you don’t have a KPA account, click ‘Create Account‘ on the login screen. Once logged in, proceed to New Submission to begin your submission. Detailed instructions are provided.

Acceptance & Notification

Irrespective of acceptance, you will receive an email notification by mid-July 2024.

If you are selected to present, you are required to sign a Photo Consent Form, also known as a model release.

If your abstract proposal has been accepted, you must confirm your presentation via the online Presenter Agreement (link in the notification email) within one week of notification. If you do not respond by this date, the acceptance of your abstract proposal may be withdrawn.

** Note: Since all correspondence, including official notifications, will be conducted via email, please ensure that KPA emails are not filtered into your junk mailbox. If you haven’t received an email by the notification date, please contact KPA directly regarding the status of your abstract. You’ll need to confirm acceptance within one week.

Abstract Publication

  • Summaries of podium presentations (pre-conference sessions, concurrent sessions, or mini-concurrent sessions) will be featured in conference materials. Only authors listed as presenting authors on the submission site will be included. Authors not designated as “presenting authors” will not be featured in conference materials.
  • Podium presentation abstracts may be shared on the KPA website. Final podium presentations from the conference may also be published in the KPA eLearning Center.
  • Abstracts of poster presentations given at the conference will be published in the Online Poster Gallery. All authors, whether presenting or not, will be included in the Online Poster Gallery.
