You will agree with me, whether it’s property or whether it’s big, and as public mental health practitioners would say, the problems have been described. Now, we know the problem, and I think the challenge for us is, are we going to continue describing the problem of mental health? The limited gap in care, when will we start doing something about it? I think that’s why we are here today, thinking about the solutions towards addressing the main social dance of mental health. In our little space in Eldoret, we will present a very brief presentation on a project that attempts to address this treatment, as has already been telling us what they are doing. So, this is a p-deliver Community-Based intervention problem-based therapy. We have heard about interpersonal therapy, many therapies, and problem-solving therapy, and as I start, I want to say this work. The project is called it is involved the youth, and it is funded by the Clinical and Translational Sense Institute in the University as part of what we call Recal GRS. So, these are small GRS that they give to do work that has both been done in Kenya and the US, and so you must collaborate with the team from the US so that hopefully after implemented here, it can also be implemented back in the US.

So, as you can see, we are in Kenya, and the rest of us are just collaborators and members from the University and of us working on business. So, why we talk about problem-solving, especially for you, and you agree with me that a lot has sponsored early life. You look at the figures and facts, we can probably say that up to 75% of most mental illness begins by 24 years of age. That’s quite young, and unfortunately, the youth are also in many transitions to other, and now you add all the other issues like unemployment and environment things happening, then we know that early intervention is best in terms of intervention, prevention, and promotion. And it’s also true that there are interventions that cut across whatever you have. I think there are interventions because it doesn’t matter whether you have a substance use or a problem-solving one of those that cut across. And why problem-solving therapy again is that it is also quite simple. And you think about it, even in real life, sometimes you talk to people, and they tell you they have many problems, and they are not able to exactly describe what they are going through. And one of the thoughts around this intervention is that people need encouragement to call their problems by name. And in problem therapy, you don’t say, ‘I have many problems.’ You list them: financial problem, relationship problems, problems with my mother, problems with school, especially for young people. And so, it’s simple and starts with defining whatever it is someone is going through, then helping them think through solutions. So, what if you have a financial problem? What would you do about it? Because it’s not just that you have a problem, but you can sit down and think about some of the options that you have. And the other thing is, if you think about financial challenges, that’s a huge problem, and they need to come up and say, ‘I have financial problems, and here are the options. I can sell something, I can take on a job at a restaurant.’ Very simple. Again, thinking about what options, why? Because you are in that situation, but you can sit down and think about some of the options that you have. And the other thing is if you think about financial challenges that the youth have, they can come up and say, ‘I have financial problems, and here are the options. I can sell something, I can take on a job at a restaurant.’ Very simple. Again, thinking about what options, why?
